"Cuddling delights children, worship delights gods" is the adage. There is no use handing over infants to the jealous. For, they don't show love for the darlings. They have no feelings of fatherhood or motherhood. Likewise in some, devotion is absent for worship; Devo bhutvaa devam archayet is the saying. If vigraha is handed over to a person bereft of devatva (godliness), instead of acquiring anugraha (benediction), he would suffer nigraha (curse).
