It is a practice to say "Na mama (not mine)" while donating an object. However, it is not applicable in 'Kanyā-Dāna'. For, even after sending the daughter along with son-in-law, the relationship ("My daughter") is retained. Only her Gotra changes to that of her husband. In addition, regard and esteem also exist for the son-in-law: "Jāmātā viṣṇuvat pūjyaḥ (son-in-law is to be worshipped like Lord Vishnu)".
