One is ordained to take up Brahmacarya Āśrama (celibacy) to understand this Tīramāna (decision about goal) of Life through Vidyābhyāsa (Learning). Then to continue the Dhārmic progeny Gṛhasthāśrama (House-holder's stage) is advocated. Later in Life, to realize completely the Paramārtha (ultimate meaning) of Life through meditation, a serene environment is needed and that is when Vānaprastha Āśrama (Hermit-life) is advocated. And finally Sanyāsa-Āśrama (ascetic life) is recommended to take refuge in the ultimate and the Supreme Being and to shed this life.
